ON PAINTING

You've resisted writing an artist statement. Why?
-Why put on a straitjacket? An artist statement is a tombstone. Who cares?

What is a painting to you?
-A painting is the act of being alive. It’s an investigation, an experiment, an ongoing addiction to beauty..

And what makes a painting yours specifically?
-It’s the ‘mistakes’ and ‘bad character’ of the work, which if it is any good, might be of interest to a stranger. It’s a sense of history and a personal mediation of the world.
